It was a fresh, breezy afternoon during one of my care-free summer days of 1979, where I was teaching a class of dolls and stuffed animals a lesson in using voices when reading aloud. Little did I know, I was mimicking my life’s calling. As a child, I was practicing an art form that would define and shape me into what makes me me—a person who thrives on making a difference in the lives of others through literacy. Teaching is one of the highest forms of servicing humanity, and I respectfully treasure it as an innate gift. As an educator, I feel an obligation to enlighten, motivate, and stimulate autonomy and creativity in every student I teach. Reading and writing are my living waters which keep purpose and meaning flowing in my life. Without them both, life would be barren and purposeless. To inspire children to use their innate tools of inventiveness and imagination through literacy is my life’s passion. There is nothing better than witnessing the out pour of understanding and creative vision coming from students who have a developed a sincere appreciation for reading and writing. There is simply nothing more rewarding.
